On October 19, 2020, Lakewood Mayor Meghan F. George appointed Matthew John Markling to the Nuisance Abatement Appeals Board for the City of Lakewood. In announcing her appointments to the Lakewood City Council, Mayor George wrote: “I am grateful that these talented and engaged Lakewood Citizens are willing to volunteer their time, energy and knowledge to improve our community. I am confident that they will bring commitment, prudence and enthusiasm to this important responsibility.” Lakewood Codified Ordinance 510.01, which was enacted in December 2008, allows for a property owner whose property has been declared a “nuisance” to appeal said decision to the Board. The Board is comprised of five Lakewood residents (three members are appointed by the Mayor and two members are appointed by City Council) each of whom serve three year terms and are not compensated. The Board is the final administrative appeal in determining whether a declaration of nuisance is upheld.
