Ohio Department of Education Increased Efforts to Identify and Support Students with Dyslexia

As part of HB 436 which became effective on April 12, 2021, the Ohio Dyslexia Committee was formed as part of an effort to offer support for children who may be dyslexic.

A main responsibility of the committee is to develop best practices and methods for dyslexia screening, intervention, and remediation. These practices will be part of a guidebook to assist school districts in providing necessary services to these students

The committee is also responsible for recommending student-to-teacher training ratios, personnel certification requirements, and professional development practicums. A multi-tier screening process will also be implemented to better identify dyslexic students.
