On December 8, 2021, Senate Bill 229 (“Bill”) was passed by the Ohio legislature. The bill discusses changes to remote and blended learning and provides districts the option to continue providing remote learning instruction and to submit blended learning plans for the current school year until April 30, 2022.
The Bill also provides for a third grade reading guarantee exemption for the 2021-2022 school year only, prohibiting public and chartered schools in the state from retaining students under the third grade reading guarantee exemption.
The Bill further provides Ohio districts with some leeway regarding the state report card with regard to pandemic related absences.
